District Governor
Usama Barghouthi, Amman, Jordan
Governor, Rotary International
D2450, 2011-12
Dear (Contact First Name),
This month our clubs celebrated the handing over between the administration of the 2010-11 and 2011-12, between the year where we were building communities and bridging continents to the year where we continue doing that while we will reach within to embrace humanity.
I would like to congratulate every Rotary Club of our District for an exceptional year on all their achievements. Many thanks go to the Rotarian members for standing strong behind their clubs and for doing the work of Rotary.
I would like to extend thanks and congratulations to the various club committees for their contribution to what Rotary in our Countries have collectively achieved in 2010-11. Of course the administration of your club has been guided and assisted throughout the year, almost on daily basis, by the various country leaders, whether your Assistant Governor or AGC or Committee Chairs or Deputy Governor. They also deserve a big thank you for their dedication, time and effort.
I also recognize the effort and time that the many unnoticed soldiers have contributed to this success, namely the senior Rotarians of our Clubs who will continue giving the clubs their support in 2011-12 and beyond.
I must recognize the work of Immediate Past District Governor Assem Abdel Razek and his board, advisors and committee chairs for an exceptional year in service. I recognize their steadfast stand to protect and support Rotary in spite of all the external and internal challenges they faced.
To each one who helped in any form or capacity, the good that Rotary is doing, I send our District appreciation and thanks .....

July 2011
My dear brothers and sisters in Rotary!

All of us in Rotary are looking to change the world - why else would we be Rotarians? We believe that our world can be happier, healthier, and more peaceful, and that we can create that better world through our service.
In 2011-12, I will ask Rotarians to Reach Within to Embrace Humanity . I will ask you to search first within yourselves, to understand that all of us, everywhere, have the same dreams, the same hopes, the same aspirations, and similar dilemmas. When we understand, and truly feel, that others' needs are the same as our own, we begin to understand how important our work is. In the year ahead, we will have three emphases in our Rotary service.
Our first emphasis in this Rotary year will be the family. The family and the home are at the core of all our work - all our service begins here. And through the family, we approach all of our community and indeed, all of humanity, as an extended family, in which all members care for each other. In times of joy and in times of need, no one is ever alone.
Our second emphasis will be continuity - finding the things we do well and taking them to the next level. We must build on our successes, expand on them, and strive to do even more. Of course, our greatest obligation is to PolioPlus, where success is now so close.
And our third emphasis will be change. We must understand that true change can only begin with each of us, and start within us. We cannot share peace with others if we do not have it to give. We cannot look after the whole world without first looking after those closest to us: our families, our clubs, and our communities.
Mohandas K. Gandhi said, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." In Rotary, we endeavor to live ethically and honestly, to share friendship and fellowship, to see equal worth in every human being. We are not interested in the lowest common denominator, for Rotary is anything but common. Instead, we work to elevate ourselves, elevate others, and thereby embrace the world.
Together, we will Reach Within to Embrace Humanity . And in peace, harmony, and friendship, we will bring change - and a more joyful world.
Kalyan Banerjee
President, Rotary International

Message from the Foundation Trustee chair
Let's work together to make 2011-12 a great year
Bill Boyd, Foundation Trustee Chair
I am excited, and I hope you are too, as we move into the new Rotary year. Our clubs and districts have new leaders, and we've set new goals for the year ahead. Everything we appreciate in Rotary remains constant, but the people and roles change. Similarly, our Rotary Foundation has new trustees and a new chair, but our mission remains the same: to enable Rotarians to advance world peace through the improvement of health, support of education, and alleviation of poverty. This year, we've set three goals for the Foundation - not to replace our vision for the future, but to give us focus for the year. (more) |

District 2450 on Social Media

Life has changed with internet. The Rotary International has changed a lot in the past few years. We have moved from mimeographed newsletters to PDF copies sent by email. We now have websites, email, smart phones, and virtual clubs.
As the work changes, District 2450 and the local Rotary Clubs adapted to the change. We are all dedicated to "Service Above Self", but for our clubs stay healthy or just survive, we need to attract new members (and often younger members.)
I know that many of our members have not embraced the internet or new technology, but I would guess that those members are still active in running their businesses know about these changes.
Along with emails and internet, we entered the world of Social Media to reach out to new members and increase communication within and among our clubs.
District 2450 is on several Social Media Networking locations.

Rotary and social networking
Rotarians help provide service through fellowship, and social networking is one of the many ways Rotarians are connecting online. Visit Rotary International's official social networking pages and join the conversation.
These include Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flicker, and YouTube. These sites can interconnect, keep you updated via email or SMS alerts, and can be linked to your website. Do you have a RSS subscription link on your page?
The key to these new technologies is not the bells and whistles, but information access. The ability to connect and collaborate over various platforms only increases our ability to work together.
Check out the link above to find our more about Social Media and Rotary. Ask your younger members about their social links.
My challenge to you is: How can you use the internet and Social Media to make your club more effective?
